Membership subscriptions

2024

For employees, membership subscriptions are 1.1% of your primary taxable income (unchanged from 2023). This membership subscription entitles you to all of our services and includes membership of Erko, the Unemployment Fund for Higher Educated Employees.

If you are self-employed, membership costs €200 per year if you pay in one go, or €16.67 per month (unchanged from 2023). This membership subscription entitles you to all of our services, but does not include unemployment fund membership. You can voluntarily join the Entrepreneur Fund to provide yourself with unemployment insurance.

If you do not earn a salary or receive benefits from an unemployment fund, membership costs €8 per month.

This could apply in the following situations: you are on maternity or paternity leave, you receive a grant, you are on unpaid sick leave, you receive rehabilitation allowance, you receive carer’s allowance, or you are unemployed and receive benefits from Kela. You also pay the minimum subscriptions of €8 per month if you are in work and 1.1% of your salary would be less than €8.

As a member, you are responsible for ensuring that your information is accurate. When you keep your member information up to date, you avoid unnecessary payment reminders.

Paying for your membership

You can pay for your membership yourself, or you can ask your employer to pay it directly from your salary.

Give your employer a power of attorney to allow them to deduct your membership subscriptions directly from your salary.
One copy of the power of attorney is returned to the Akava Special Branches office, one goes to your employer, and you keep one for your records.

If you want to pay your membership subscriptions yourself, the easiest way to do so is in the online member area. You can also use the online member area to apply for reduced membership subscriptions if you are not employed.

Tax-deductible membership subscriptions

Your membership subscriptions are automatically tax deductible. That means that after the tax deduction, the net annual cost of your membership is only 55% of the subscriptions you pay during the year. If you order a new tax card, you can fill in information about your membership subscriptions: the Tax Authority will then consider them when calculating your tax rate.

Akava Special Branches sends information to the Tax Authority once a year.
